Please peruse the site at your leisure (more articles to be uploaded soon - an office move certainly gets in the way of progress!).
To answer, yes, that's me singing here when you click on the player below (not very well, but it was FUN!) - let's face it: who can compete with Streisand? Definitely not me!
Please watch the video below. I encourage everyone to get behind "Feel Teal" and to do their part for Ovarian Cancer Awareness. This is a very important cause and it deserves your attention. Many types of cancer can be detected in their early stages - Ovarian Cancer is not one of them. I think many of us remember one of its most famous victims, Saturday Night Live's, Gilda Radner. Sadly, they did not discover her cancer until it was too late.
As for me, in January 2011, a growth was discovered on one of my ovaries which looked 'different,' but was not yet cause for any surgery. They took a 'wait and see and re-sonogram' approach - six months later, the growth had doubled in size. It was a no-brainer to immediately schedule surgery.
There is no other option...
There is no blood test...
There is no biopsy...
The only option is removal of the ovary.
Thankfully, there is a new procedure called a "Laprascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy" whereby they make 3-4 small incisions in the abdomen (usually about a quarter inch) and 'scope it out' (as I like to refer to the process). I was in and out of the outpatient center in less than 24 hours - and off of the heavy meds for pain in less than a week, as well as driving again.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Scott Kramer and the Women's Health Specialists of Fremont, CA. I have had MANY OB/GYN's over the years, but this doctor puts them all to shame. If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, I cannot recommend him and his organization more highly. He is one of the leading surgeons/specialists in this type of non-invasive surgery. If you need a new physician, or are looking for a second opinion, look no further. Dr. Kramer is the 'Medallion Standard.'
I am one of the lucky ones - the growth was not cancerous, but for countless others, that result will not be the case. We need to go that extra mile to ensure that Ovarian Cancer Awareness is not put on a back burner. Please share this video and its message - and DO get your regular OB/GYN check-ups - a lot can happen in six months!
